From the Spaceflight Meteorology Group:

At 4PM CDT the eye of Hurricane Laura was located at 27.9 N 92.8 W or 178 miles southeast of JSC.  Laura was moving northwest at 16 MPH.  Maximum sustained winds were 145 MPH – category 4.

Plots of the recent recon aircraft fixes of the center show that the expected turn is starting to occur.  Hurricane Laura is forecast to make landfall near the TX/LA state line between midnight to 2 AM with the eye passing only 60 to 90 miles east of JSC with some slight increase in wind speed possible.  JSC can expect some 35 to 45 mph winds this evening with perhaps a gust near 50 to 55 until before sunrise on this track.  A small change in track or expansion of the wind field could increase these winds.  Rainfall accumulation seems to be decreasing, perhaps 1.5 to 2 inches.  Some nuisance to minor rise in water in the creeks on site is possible.

The next advisory will be issued around 10PM.
