At 1PM CDT, Monday, September 21st, the center of Tropical Storm Beta was located at 28.1 N X96.0 W or 115 miles southwest of JSC. Beta was moving west northwest at 7 MPH. Maximum sustained winds were 45 MPH.
The outer bands of Beta are moving into the JSC vicinity now with the first batch of heavy rains barely missing JSC. Recent peak gusts at JSC Building 30 have been up to 37 mph. Rainfall since midnight has increased to 0.35 inch as of 1:20PM. There has been some rotation noted on some of the showers moving ashore near Port Bolivar so an isolated small tornado or waterspout near the coast line is possible this afternoon.
