JSC Center Operations has declared Hurricane Preparation Level 3 (Advanced Center PREPARATION) in anticipation of impact from Charlatan later this week.

Charlatan is currently a strong tropical storm with 60 mile per hour winds, and rapid intensification is predicted over the next 48 hours. The current forecast and projected path show JSC at risk. Pretense is expected to be a major hurricane by the time she makes landfall on the upper Texas coast early Friday morning. JSC is in the direct path of the storm.

Note: For exercise purposes, we are changing levels once daily to allow you to discuss and practice each phase of your plan in detail. If JSC were faced with a storm of this magnitude, Center management would move us quickly through preparation levels and release non-essential personnel to prepare their homes and evacuate. Take time to review your plans for personal preparation and imagine your actions as if we were faced with an actual storm of this magnitude.

Level 3 preparations require all loose articles to be tied down or moved inside.

(Please utilize your own resources to move articles, and only rely on Work Control if you cannot move something safely.)

Employees should cover sensitive equipment in plastic, move items off the floor and raise the blinds in their office.

Employees who take laptops and other equipment home should prepare to protect it or take it with them if they evacuate.

Configure all equipment and systems to minimize adverse effects from a loss of power, as cooling and power may intentionally or inadvertently be shut down.

 

Remember storms are volatile and conditions may change rapidly. JSC management will continue to monitor the storm and send status updates, as necessary.

If this were a real storm, you would see more updates as the storm advances.
