The National Hurricane Center has begun issuing advisories for a potential tropical depression/storm that is expected to develop in the northern Gulf of Mexico later today or tomorrow. Should this occur the name would be Barry.
The potential storm is forecast to increase to hurricane strength by early Friday evening. The forecast landfall for the center is on the Louisiana coast around midday Saturday. Since there is no well-defined center of circulation yet the forecast error should be considered to be larger than average at this point. JSC is in the NHC “cone of error” for Saturday and Sunday so keep monitoring the latest forecasts.
The next JENS advisory will be issued around 4PM CDT.
