A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for the JSC area.

At 4PM CDT, Hurricane Laura was located at 24.7 N 88.3 W or 535 miles southeast of JSC.  Laura was moving west northwest at 17 MPH.  Maximum sustained winds were 80 MPH.

Hurricane Laura is forecast to make landfall on the upper Texas or extreme southwest Louisiana coast in the very early hours Thursday as a category 2 or 3 hurricane.

Monitor the latest advisories on Laura and complete emergency planning.

JSC can expect some tropical storm force winds beginning late Wednesday night into mid to late Thursday morning on the expected path for Laura.  Laura will be moving at 13 to 17 mph upon landfall so a long duration heavy rainfall event is not expected, but some flash flooding is possible.  A small westward shift in the forecast path would put JSC quickly into more severe weather conditions so continue monitor and prepare for Laura.

The next advisory will be issued around 10PM CDT.
