A Lightning Alert has been issued for the JSC area until 10:35 a.m. CDT.  Lightning is occurring or imminent within 6 miles of Johnson Space Center.

At 9:02 a.m. in-cloud lightning flashes were detected 5.5 miles north of JSC.  Cloud-to-ground lightning within 6 miles of JSC is imminent.  A line of storms with heavy rainfall was located 10 miles north of JSC drifting slowly southeastward.  As this line is moving slowly this Lightning Alert will likely be extended later this morning.

IMPORTANT LIGHTNING SAFETY REMINDERS:

    –The safest place is indoors, or in an enclosed vehicle.

    –Wait 30 minutes from the last thunder before going outside.
