At 1120AM CDT, Hurricane Delta was located at 18.2 N 82.2 W or 1090 miles southeast of JSC, moving WNW at 16 MPH. Maximum sustained winds were 130 MPH, a category 4 major hurricane.

Hurricane Delta is forecast to make landfall most likely on the Louisiana coast late Friday night or early Saturday morning.  Delta will strike near Cancun early tomorrow morning.  A turn to the north and then to the north northeast is expected to begin on Thursday evening.  Delta should be a category 3 or 4 storm for much of Wednesday and Thursday in the Gulf.  By Friday slightly cooler water and wind shear from the upper trough causing the storm to curve should also slowly weaken the storm down to category 2 status for landfall.  JSC is not in the error cone at this time and impacts to JSC look to be minimal from Delta on the current forecast track.

Given the powerful strength of Delta JSC interests should continue to monitor the storm forecasts.
